How does GOBE work?

GOBE is a community app for people to list gear to rent and for people to borrow gear from locals and is made up of two types of people. “Hosts” who list their own gear on the app in order to earn money renting it out to people, and “Riders” who are looking to borrow gear.

How much can I make renting out my gear?

As a Host, we allow you to set the daily rental amounts for your items. In terms of payouts, GOBE has an 80/20 policy in place for General Hosts. A Host will take home 80%, while the remaining 20% will be split between Stripe and GOBE. Since most of us have used delivery services, rideshares and vacation rentals before, we’ve all seen the fees add up quite quickly in the checkout process. GOBE wanted to avoid that for Riders and Hosts and has built all of that into the amounts listed for rent. For instance, if a Host lists an item for $25 a day and that item is rented for 1 day, the Host will take home $20. Stripe will keep 2.9% + .30 to process (approx. $1.03) and GOBE will keep approx. $3.97. The thought behind this is to avoid multiple Riders getting to the checkout process and backing out at that time. We would rather Hosts are taking home multiple listings at 80% with Riders knowing exactly what they’re paying up front.

How am I protected?

As a Rider, GOBE has partnered with Passbase for background checks. Before anyone can borrow gear from someone, they must first upload a picture of their ID in the app and take a selfie that matches the ID they’ve uploaded. GOBE does not store any of this information. Only after passing the background check are they allowed to be able to reserve and rent gear. This is the first step in providing security as a Host in preventing anyone from borrowing gear and either intentionally damaging it or stealing it.

To be a Host, GOBE has partnered with Stripe for its merchant processing. Since you are the one who is now EARNING money instead of SPENDING money, Stripe must abide by federal guidelines in setting up an account for you on the back end. In order to do that, they will ask for personal information like your birthday, SSN, address, etc. in the app. GOBE does not store any of this information.

How is my gear protected?

GOBE is simply an introductory platform between two parties. GOBE cannot guarantee the quality of the gear being listed, but every Host who signs on to the app is agreeing to our Terms & Conditions that the gear is in usable/good condition. That being said, if a Rider rents gear and damages the gear due to negligence, a Damage Claim must be filed by the Host by emailing info@gobe.app. An investigation will take place between GOBE, the Host and the Rider. If after determining that negligence was the cause for the damage, GOBE will charge up to the full determined value of the item in question.

How do I actually get the gear?

GOBE doesn’t include any shipping and is a local-based pickup/return app. When a Host lists an item, they’re able to choose the location for pickup and return. If the location spot won’t suffice, there is a chat function available in the app by clicking on the person’s profile. A couple things to consider:

  • When able, always choose a public location for pickup & return
  • Use the app for communication – don’t communicate with your personal cell outside of the app
  • Use the app for payment. GOBE cannot vouch for transactions that have taken place outside of the app..
  • If something seems off, trust your gut.
  • If there’s any issues email us at info@gobe.app

How do I get paid?

Once it’s been determined that the item has been returned to the Host in acceptable condition, GOBE will release payment to the Host’s listed bank account.
